Why close online accounts?
Closing the online accounts of deceased loved ones is an important step in looking after their final arrangements.
- Many websites and Apps have a monthly cost and across a few of these in a short amount of time several hundred dollars in fees can be collected from the credit card on file for the deceased.
- As well as that it can very upsetting for friends and family of the deceased to see their loved one in reminders and notifications such as their birthday, work anniversary etc.
- Also, sadly, there is a growing increase in identity fraud where online accounts compromised and used for illegal purposes in the name of the real account owner. Messages are sent from their social media accounts, and their personal information and even funds stolen.
